Is there anything nicer than a Cinnamon Scroll on a bitter cold winter's day? How about the same taste in a tea cake, that's really easy to whip up and then pop straight in the oven while you watch a sunday movie? Why delay gratification when you can pop this cake in the oven and make the same icing you would be having on your scrolls anyway! Same satisfying taste with half the labour. Oh with the bizarre return of "high summer" temperatures, and a really dry brown view of our hills to contend with (poor farmers), ice-cream making has returned to lift my spirits while in the kitchen (aircon firmly back on while cooking).

There's something very inspiring, especially for a writer, about the gentle clatter of cups and saucers, whirring of the old timber ceiling fans, smell of freshly baked scones and murmur of conversation, along with calm feeling and sense of knowing that this is always how this has been done at the Windsor Hotel in Spring Street Melbourne.
