While I have grown potato onions and spring onions widely at times, the Negi onion is the one that remains outside my kitchen door and never dies off. Happily this year, they self-propagated (perhaps from the east winds swirling around the place), so now I have three pots outside the kitchen door.

I really like the winter season up here actually. As you can detect from the passage above, our cold temperate climate here in South East Australia is fickle.So is the frost. We never quite know when or how much we will get. In the decade I have been here I have counted from 6 to 25 frosts per year.

Its one of my favourite times of the year! Time to sow the tomato seeds! Frosty mornings are on their way out (i hope), and thoughts of sunshine and produce are dancing through my head. I'm sowing the first varieties out this week in the greenhouse, so as to have them ready for planting out in the garden after the last frost. I really didn't think when I put in 2 very small "no dig" vegetable plots in our garden on the first weekend that we moved in, that in 5 years it would have grown to 13 veggie beds and now a greenhouse. Every few months i have (probably) annoyed the husband, asking "Can you put another one over in that corner?" or "You know what would go well over there?".
